Whilst living in NYC I missed my Indian food a lot and no one makes it quite like Grandma but London definitely has some great options on almost every corner. Here are my recent favourites….. [Shails]
Three locations of this trendy NYC style indian eatery. Shoreditch, Covent Garden and the largest just opened in Kings Cross , all delicious but prepare for long lines at the latter if you have not booked! This is the only place in London I have found that does delicious melt in the mouth Roomali Roti, handkerchief thin chapatti that is best eaten hot. Great for group dining, service is friendly and efficient in a trendy setting. My best dishes here are the Gunpowder potatoes, Pau Bhaji and House Black Daal mopped up with Roomali Roti.

Quietly tucked away behind Oxford Street, this is an authentic Indian food experience. The top floor is more casual serving Indian street food, great to pop in for lunch or dinner or even a snack break from shopping. Downstairs is a more formal dining room which requires reservations. The food is equally good on both floors and family style ordering is definitely the way to go. Best dishes upstairs in the street kitchen are the Haka Chilli Paneer and the Aloo Gobi. Downstairs try the Saag Paneer and the Palak Papri Chaat – you will not be disappointed!
This longstanding chain is fully vegetarian but by no means does it falter on taste. Woodlands specialises in South Indian food with delicious Dosa, Uttapam and Idli. Menu is very extensive and if you are really going for it – get the Thali, you will not be disappointed! Favourites here are the Mysore Masala Dosa, New Delhi Thali and the Aloo PapriChat. Casual atmosphere and clean, simple decor, reservations recommended.
