As the leaves change color, it’s the perfect opportunity to venture outside the city. Back to school season, Halloween, and the comfortably crisp sweater weather bring out the big kids in us! [Nic & Shails]
Accessible by car or train and only an hour or so from the city. We visited Dr. Davies Farm in Congers, NY- only 5 minutes from where Nic grew up and her childhood fall ritual. Buy a bag and fill it with as many apples as you can. We had 4 or 5 varieties to choose from including Crispin, Golden Delicious, and Rome. A helpful tip: 60 apples are quite heavy- thread the bag handles with the apple picker and carry it with a friend.
I have to admit, its not the easiest to get to and not the best area, but I do love this place. Sometimes I have moral dilemmas about animals being caged up but here at the Bronx there is so much space! The animals here are very well looked after and the space is well maintained and very green. Worth checking out the Asian Monorail – tigers, elephants, rhinos and many more.
This will definitely bring out the big kid in you! Be creative or browse the many stencils online to create the spookiest scare. Hours of fun and a great indoor activity when the temperature drops. Pumpkins are usually available from mid October and a great place to pick them up is whilst out apple picking!
